The track has been built for this summer’s Games and Hertfordshire’s Trott has a real chance of representing Great Britain on it at the Olympics.

About riding on the newly laid track, she said: “It feels nice as it feels like home for me, I’m only 20 minutes on the train back to my house.

“It almost feels surreal when you’re on the track because it is where it [the Olympics] is going to happen.

Trott, 19, is to compete in the women’s omnium and team pursuit in the World Cup competition, which doubles up as an Olympic test event.

In the last 18 months the teenager has put herself in contention for an Olympic Games berth, in 2011 she was crowned World and European champion in the team pursuit and European champion in the Omnium.

The BBC is showing coverage of the World Cup event over the weekend.
