The Chancellor’s School pupil, who plays for the Hertfordshire Warriors Girls Under-16 team and Hertfordshire Warriors Ladies team, said: “I am proud to have been selected for the England U16 Girls Basketball squad.

“It is a privilege to represent my country, I hope to continue to represent England at U18s and then Great Britain in the Olympics.’

Ellie has already represented the East Region at Under-13 and Under-15 and Hertfordshire at Under-17.

And starred for England Under-15s this summer at a tournament in Copenhagen and captained the team in their victory against Wales in July.

Ellie’s dad Mark said: “As part of her selection for the Under-16 squad Ellie has been asked to try and get sponsorship to cover the cost of training camps and attending the European Championships.

“We have written to some local companies but in the current climate have not had much response.”
