HATFIELD Swimming Club’s Adam Brown has clocked the second fastest 50m time ever by a British swimmer.

The Beijing Olympian, who trains at the Herts Sports Village in Hatfield, was competing at the European Short Course Championships in Sczcecin, Poland last week when he set his new best of 21.37secs.

He finished fourth in the men’s 100m and fifth in the 50m freestyle final.

The British 50m record of 21.13secs was set in 2001 by Mark Foster.

The men’s 4x50m freestyle relay quartet brought the curtain down on the British Gas GBR Swimming Team’s campaign in Poland.

The squad of Brown, Jak Scott, Chris Walker-Hebborn and James touched in 1min 28.28secs to finish seventh.

It is a busy pre-Christmas schedule for Brown as this week his is representing the European All Star Team as they take on the United States.
