NORTH Mymms returned to the top of the HCPL Division Two East table after a resounding eight-wicket win over Stevenage on Saturday.
Mymms skipper, Nesan Jeyaratnam, won the toss and asked Stevenage to bat.
When David Carr was caught off the second ball of the day by Neil Bamford off the bowling of Usman Arif, Mymms’ confidence rose.
When Gary Brown was caught by Steven Snell off the bowling of Daniel Beretov a few balls later, the scene was sent for a low scoring game.
Mymms continued to apply the pressure as wickets fell at regular intervals.
Jeyaratnam rotated his bowlers well as Stevenage found it difficult to score, with only three batsmen reaching double figures.
Stevenage’s top scorers were Faraz Ul Haq with 25 and Andy Nolan who struck 24.
Mymms’ best bowling performance came from Rhys Wynne, taking four for 21 off 10 overs.
He was ably supported by Daniel Beretov and Sherrick Chavda who each took two wickets.
After the break, Mymms took up the challenge of chasing down the target of 74.
They wasted no time in attacking the bowling.
When Mymms’ openers, Rhys Wynne (13) and Dominic Chatfield (five) were back in the pavilion, Snell decided to take on the Stevenage bowling attack.
Snell single handedly steered Mymms to victory, punishing the Stevenage bowlers. He raced to his 50 off only 40 balls, ending on 55 not out.
With the victory, Mymms return to the top of the table where they will be looking to stay after their trip to a resurgent Radlett on Saturday.
