The clash, which saw the host’s Irish international Michelle Drayne play parts of the game for both sides, was a first Mavericks friendly ahead of the 2017 Netball Superleague season.

Of the workout, assistant coach Camilla Buchanan said: “It’s always good to get your first outing of the season.

“The build-up and buzz of playing in front of your home supporters, seeing the team fired up, - is really enjoyable.

“This coming season, more than ever, has so many unknowns with new franchises and huge player movement - it has to be an exciting time to be involved in the game.”

Mavericks’ player of the match was new signing Keshia Grant. The New Zealander brought speed and dynamism to the mid-court and promises to be one to watch this season.

Mavericks are next in action on Tuesday (November 29) as they face England U21s at the Copper Box Arena.
