The delayed Welwyn Half Marathon, postponed earlier in the year because of snow, saw Alex Newman-Smith the first GCR to finish back in the Gosling Stadium.

He clocked one hour 21 minutes two seconds for fifth place.

Malcolm Down was the third M50 while Laura Cowley was GCRs’ first lady and eighth female overall in 1:34:54.

And GCR superstars Dennis and Eleanor Draper picked up the trophies in the M80 and F80 categories.

The first race of the Affinity Water Hatfield 5K Series also took place.

Twenty-three GCRs took part with Paul Guy the first home in 12th place while Martha Hall took third lady as the first GCR female home.

And there were six from the club pounding the streets of South Tyneside in the Great North Run.

Zoe Stephens was the first to finish in 1:43:08 ahead of Sally Laflin, Nick Atkinson, Angela Woods, Louise Smith and Maureen Steed.
