Hatfield Town conceded another four goals as their second Spartan South Midlands League Division One match ended in defeat.

The 4-1 loss at home to Bedford had promised much, with the return of a number of key players, and it began just as well.

Playing some good and effective football the Blueboys took the lead at Cotlandswick, home of London Colney and where Hatfield will play for this season.

Darren O’Brien got it, volleying home from distance and giving the Bedford keeper no chance.

But from there Town found it tough against the visitors’ passing football.

Bedford equalised on 30 minutes and went on to add two more before the interval.

Sheldrake, Newton and O’Brien worked tirelessly to stem the tide but an injury for the former shortly after the restart didn’t help.

And the fourth arrived with 20 minutes to go.

Hatfield host Codicote tonight (Tuesday) in another league match.
