Potters Bar Town suffer first league defeat of season

POTTERS Bar Town fell to their first Ryman League Division One North loss of the campaign on Tuesday night as they were beaten 2-0 at home by fellow high-fliers Grays Athletic.

However, in the second half the game was marred by ugly scenes as visiting Athletic fans taunted the Scholars’ one-time GB deaf team star, Daniel Ailey and police were called.

The disturbance has since been referred to the FA.

Bar had started the game second in the table, but Gray’s duo Jack West and Joao Carlos netted in the first 16 minutes which proved enough to secure the win for the Essex side, who moved top of the standings.

The Scholars had made a superb start to the season going unbeaten in 11 league games, they now sit in third place.

Adam Lee’s side are back in action on Saturday as they host bottom of the table side Ware.
