There has also been an overhaul of the committee at the Gosling Sports Park-based outfit.

Maloney steps up from his role as match secretary, and is looking forward to the challenge.

“A few of the players said I should do it, and to be unanimously voted in was very pleasing,” he told the WHT.

“I think now the players and management can fully focus on what goes on on the pitch and not have to concern themselves with off-the-field distractions.

“The club would like to express our thanks for all the hard work Chris (O’Connor) has put in, and we hope he still wants to be involved with the football club.”

Departing chairman O’Connor said: “I have stepped down as chairman of HTFC due to the continued demand of my business and family commitments.

“Unfortunately, I could not spend as much time as I would have liked with the club, especially on match days.

“I will continue to support the club in any way that I can and offer Chris any support he may he need.”
