The curse of the manager of the month award struck again as Potters Bar Town lost 1-0 at home to Aveley.

Steve Ringrose had been named as the top boss in Bostik League North on Wednesday after a stellar January where the Scholars had won six and drawn one of their eight games and risen to third in the table.

But that draw had been at Aveley and the Essex club proved to be a thorn in Bar’s side once again as Ryan Cosson’s eighth-minute strike proved to be the difference between the sides in the return at the weekend.

The Scholars had the perfect chance to capitalise when George Doyle was sent off for the visitors midway through the second period, but they were unable to press home their man advantage.

They remain third in the table but results elsewhere didn’t go their way.

The Scholars had hoped to get over the blip when they visited Ware last night (Tuesday) but that match at Wodson Park was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
