Despite an enforced three-week break due to the bad weather, WGC flew out of the blocks away at Forde Park, Bedfordshire.

They were 2-0 ahead after only six minutes of the Spartan South Midlands League Division One clash.

Firstly midfielder Dave Kiddie tucked home after a scramble in the hosts’ penalty area and a minute later winger Jonathan Walsh raced clear from the half-way line and finished well.

The Citizens’ afternoon was to get even better in the windy and rainy conditions on 35 minutes.

Striker Ade Osobu struck his side’s third as they looked to runaway with the result.

However, WGC were to cause themselves a problem as they carelessly gave the hosts some hope before half-time.

A mis-placed ball was given to John Coley and his cross was converted past City’s debutant keeper Chris Adams by Wes Byrne on 38 minutes.

After the break it was Langford who were to find the back of the net first.

Rob Russell headed in a corner in the 65th minute to give the home side a chance of rescuing a draw with the score 3-2.

WGC had keeper Adams to thank for keeping them ahead as he made a fine stop when left one-on-one with a Langford forward.

Langford’s hopes of getting back on level terms were ended as City winger Jimmy Davis added a fourth goal with 16 minutes left to play.

Osobu was thwarted by keeper Beckwith as he looked for his second goal of the afternoon, but Davis was there to knock the ball in.

City boss Simon Braine was delighted with his side’s performance.

He said: “I’m very happy with the way the lads responded after the three-week break, it didn’t look like they had had one.

“Dave Kiddie and Piero Bagarone were excellent in central midfield and keeper Chris Adams did well on his debut and kept us in it at one point.

“The only thing I was disappointed with was the way we allowed them a free header from a corner for the second goal, but we can work on that in training.

“That’s four wins in a row now, I can’t remember the last time the club managed that.”

The three points moved WGC to 14th in the league table.

WGC do not have a game scheduled for Saturday, with their next match at Herns Lane next Wednesday (February 29) against Stony Stratford Town.
