DAVID James has been told by Championship side Bristol City that his contract will not be renewed at the end of the season.

The 41-year-old former England goalkeeper, who hails from Welwyn Garden City, has had a distinguished football career having played for the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Aston Villa, West Ham, Portsmouth and Watford.

He set the record for the most Premier League appearances, 536, in 2009 before being overtaken by Ryan Giggs in 2011.

James made 53 England appearances playing for the Three Lions at Euro 2004 and in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

James joined Bristol City in 2010 and made 84 appearances for the Ashton Gate club, he will now decide whether to continue playing or possibly look at a coaching role elsewhere.
