Though Watford eventually triumphed 3-0, the scoreline did not reflect the closeness and quality of the hard-fought individual sets.

The set scores were 25-22, 25-15 and 25-20.

Watford had to fight for each point against a tenacious side from Times Territory.

“We played some terrific points”, said Welwyn captain Lynne Howitt.

“There were loads of really long rallies that would’ve put many men’s teams to shame.

“I’m really proud of our team this year and how well they’ve played.

“We’ll be back again next year to try to win the cup and league titles!”

Welwyn and Hatfield Volleyball Club train at the Gosling Sports Park in Welwyn Garden City during the Herts Volleyball Association season which runs from September until May.

They also organise informal outside games during the summer months, as well as taking part in many outside tournaments.
