The talented pool ace swam a time of 38.88 seconds in what was an overall outstanding meeting for the enthusiastic Bar swimmers in Division One.

The Jade team in Division Three improved on their first round result finishing third.

There were individual wins for Pierre Storey, Siobhan Gallagher and Anna Church, plus relay double wins for the nine-year-old girls of Sorcha Vieyra, Abbie Longley, Madeleine Formby and Ella Batten and for the Under-13 girls of Anna Church, Amanda Hunt, Rebecca Hurley and Claire Dean.

The Blue team in Division One finished fourth against strong opposition. Hopefully the A team will win a place in the top tier of Division One for the final round in July.

For the Blue team Ben Harrison won three first places, Lorcan Vieyra and Andrea Houben each won individual races and the boys 9-year relay team of Jordan Seal, Greg Hurley, Ben Harrison and Morgan Newman won both the medley and the freestyle relays.

The Blue team recorded 23 personal best times at the gala and the Jade team notched up a remarkable 29 personal best times. Chief coach Debbie Fairhead commented: “It is great to see the swimmers continuing to improve at every competition they race in. For some of these swimmers they had not competed before this year and it is good to see them enjoy competing in such a fun set of galas.”

Club secretary Andy Gardner said: “We had some swimmers who could not compete in the first round because they were stranded by the volcanic ash problems, so it was good to have the full squad to choose from this time.

“We appreciate that swimmers and their families sometimes have other commitments, but we are thankful that the parents understand how important it is for their children to swim when selected.

“We hope to field an equally strong pair of teams for the last round on July 3.”

Senior coach Wray Shewell-Cooper added: “We continue to be amazed at how well our swimmers are performing. Some of them only learned to swim at the club in the last year or two.

“We will always need new, young swimmers at the club and we can start teaching from as young as five years. It’s great fun for them and helps develop many life skills.”

Coach for the Jade team, Bronwen Hardy said: “All the swimmers were a real credit. There will always be some gaps in certain age ranges and we had a few swimmers who had to ‘swim up’ into the next age group.

“This can be quite hard for them, but they all coped brilliantly. Well done to all of them!”

Club chairman Ian Bays added: “Our sponsors Buffera like to reward success and winning, and with the current performance of both teams this season everyone should be happy.

“We will be celebrating our achievements in the Peanuts League in mid July when we will know the final results.

“As Wray mentioned the club teaches non-swimmers all the way up to competitive club swimming, and we continue teaching and coaching all year round even through summer.

“We wish our swimmers all the best for the third and final round of the Peanuts on July 3.”
