Amazing recovery from horror crash has Welwyn Wheelers’ Caelan Miller planning a successful 2019

Caelan Miller is already showing all the mental toughness to succeed at the top end of the cycling world.

The Welwyn Wheeler suffered a big crash at the North West Youth Tour in August which resulted in 17 stitches being inserted into his hip.

Yet despite that he is already back on his bike and placed 20th in the youth race at the club’s cyclo-cross event in Stanborough Park on Sunday.

He said: “Two riders came together and one went down. I was behind and managed to dodge them but unfortunately the guy alongside me hit me and I went into the barriers.

“It’s been quite a quick recovery although it still hurts when I’m running.

“I’m still getting my fitness back but once I get some road miles in I should be ok.

“Next year I’ll be a first year U16 and I’ll be looking to get some decent results there.

“Prior to the crash I was fourth in the Isle of Man Tour and fourth at Torbay, both part of the national series.

“Hopefully I can replicate and better that.”
