JOE Smyth’s dreams of Prizefighter glory were ended on Saturday as he fell at the first hurdle.

The Hatfield boxer was stopped in his quarter-final bout against Menay Edwards in the second round, with the referee deeming Smyth was in no position to continue.

‘Big Stuff’ comfortably won the first round with his all-action style proving too much for ‘The Emperor’ Edwards, so his stoppage in the second came as a shock to many at the Kensington Olympia in London.

Edwards’ attack throughout the fight appeared more slaps than punches, but he did manage to land a few blows that rocked the Herts pugilist, and these ultimately led him to progress in the partycasino.com sponsored tournament.

Travis Dickinson secured the £32,000 prize when he defeated stand-in Sam Couzens in the final.

Prizefighter-Light-Heavyweights II was shown in 3D live on Sky Sports.
