HATFIELD’S world amateur snooker champion Alfie Burden struck his third competitive maximum 147 break within a year to reach the semi-finals of the SangSom Suphan Buri Cup in Thailand.

The father of two became only the second player to achieve the fabulous feat in the eight-year history of the Thailand Ranking circuit.

That break helped the 33-year-old to defeat Noppadon Noppachorn 4-2 to make the final four of the event earlier this month.

Unfortunately the Herts-based player was knocked out 4-2 in the semi by former Asian champion Issara Kachaiwong.

Kachaiwong went on to the final where he was beaten 5-1 by Supoj Saenla.

Burden, who became the International Billiards & Snooker Federation world champion in November, was using the South East Asian event as a warm-up ahead of his return to the main professional tour later this year.
