Potters Bar Town saw their hopes of a first Isthmian League Premier Division point of the season disappear late on at home to Billericay Town.

Sam Dowridge put the Bar in front after five minutes of the second half with an emphatic finish and at the time they seemed to be on top.

Leigh Rose was inches away from making it two five minutes later and that proved a real sliding doors moment as just moments later, Billericay were level.

The Essex visitors then took the lead with 15 minutes of the 90 remaining, wrapping up the victory on 87, Bradley Stevenson getting his second.

There were still chances for the Scholars. Brandon Adams fired just over, Dowridge had a volley saved by Dan Wilks and there was a ball flashed across the six-yard box that just couldn't find a decisive touch.

The one plus point for the Bar is in their five league games so far have been against four of the current top five, with the other being Lewes in seventh.

Manager Max Mitchell was left perplexed with the game on Monday.

Speaking on Twitter, he said: "A real head scratcher today. The performances are not reflected in some of our results at the moment.

"Time to regroup and turn our attentions to Saturday’s cup fixture."

That is in the FA Cup away to Enfield Town.
