Potters Bar Town boss Max Mitchell has been busy building his squad for the upcoming Isthmian League Premier Division season - making a number of new signings.

So far a total of seven new players have walked though the door while 11 of last year's squad have agreed to stay on for another year.

Two have made the switch from Southern League Division One Central Ware, beaten finalist in the last two editions of the play-offs.

Sam Chaney is a midfielder who can also play at full-back.

The 27-year-old started his career at Torquay United before moving to Enfield Town.

And although injury dogged the next few years, he made 18 appearances last time out, scoring four times before the Blues were beaten by Didcot Town in the final promotion match.

Leigh Rose is the second to head west across Hertfordshire.

The 30-year-old, box to box midfielder scored six times last season in 25 appearances, playing in the play-off final.

Mitchell was delighted with the capture of both men but especially Rose, who he has been an admirer of for some time.

He said: "He was one of my main targets since the off-season began and I’m glad he is now at the level he deserves to be playing at.

"He’s played in many big games over this career and that’s something that’s never phased him. His aggression and fight will give us another dimension.

"I’ve got high aspirations for Leigh and expect him to be the difference in games at the higher end of the pitch this season.

"I'm delighted to be working with Sam too. He will add lots of quality to the group and already has a number of National League appearances under his belt.

"He’s a great technician and has the ability to unlock defences, I know he will flourish in the environment we are creating."

Johnny Allotey will bring youth to the table after moving from Southern League Premier Division Central Hitchin Town.

The winger is just 20-year-old but Mitchell is more than happy to throw him straight into the squad.

The boss said: "Allotey is a young player with huge potential, he’s a quick and tricky winger.

"He’s been in a full-time football environment for the past three years and has received a good level of coaching.

"I feel he’s ready tomake an impact at first team level and he'll be given every opportunity."

New experience comes in the shape of goalkeeper Preston Edwards and midfielder Adalberto Pinto.

Edwards was playing in the National League South last season with Cheshunt and will also be remembered as part of Dulwich Hamlet's squad in 2016-17.

The 32-year-old Pinto meanwhile lists East Thurrock United, Brightlingsea Regent and Walthamstow as past employers.

Mitchell said: "When I first came to the club, the lack of a nailed-on number one goalkeeper was clear and was a priority for me.

"Experienced players give you stability and Preston's understanding of the game and winning mentality will be essential to the changing room and the team's success.

"He's already done it, he has already experienced promotion after promotion and been involved in the big games, which will be vital next season.

"Pinto emphasises the culture we are looking to implement at the club, he’s a player full of energy, character and desire.

"He is a real coup for us, we believe our style of play lends itself to Pinto's best attributes and I’m delighted he’s decided to sign for us."

Harrison Carnegie makes the move from Bowers & Pitsea and is another winger, but he is also a player known to the Scholars boss from their time at Walthamstow.

Mitchell said: "He’s an old-fashioned winger that likes to commit defenders and doesn’t think twice about crossing the ball.

"He’s got plenty of experience and will become a dependable member of the squad and will be great for some of the younger players around the club.

"He’s a player that I know I can get the best out of and will chip in with plenty of assists and goals."

Ryan Hervel was the first new face through the door after agreeing a move from New Salamis.

He is another with plenty of experience having been with the London club on their rise from Sunday League to step four.

Charncey Dash leads the players staying at the Lantern Stadium.

He joined late in the season and was part of the Velocity Cup final team, as well as scoring against Kingstonian.

The others to commit to another year at the club are Wilson Chingoka, Joe Russell, Ali Njie, Kyan Gullivar, Max Granville, Max Jessop, Calvin Dickson, Keir Dickson, Lewis Smith and Ken Feyi.
