Potters Bar Town have made Max Mitchell their permanent manager after a month as caretaker.

The former Welwyn Garden City boss arrived at the Lantern Stadium in November to take the position as assistant to then manager, Lee Protheroe.

Protheroe's reign was short though and he resigned at the beginning of March following one Isthmian League win from 13.

Mitchell agreed to take on the role on an interim basis and was in charge as the Scholars lost 3-0 to Aveley in the final of the Isthmian Velocity League Cup.

But the board believe he is more than capable of rebuilding the first team after a tough second half of the year.

Mitchell said: "I'm not one to turn down a challenge and feel that through adversity positive things can happen given there is transparency from the start, a desire to improve day by day and a togetherness in the way we work.

"We are currently going through a rebuild phase which will take time, we will be consistent with the strategy put in place from a football perspective.

"We have set realistic targets with the playing group with emphasis on looking to stabilise the team for next season and add to the current group of players over pre-season.

"I would like to thank all the current players at the club for their hard work, resilience, and perseverance this season and I’m looking forward to leading them into the game against Hastings."

Chairman Peter Waller said: "The board invited Max to accept this role as he has the desire, ability and confidence to succeed next season in the Isthmian League Premier Division, which everyone can see is a tough league.

“It was a new and young squad that played in the Velocity Cup final but the club knows they have the potential to achieve success.

"But it takes time.

"We started rebuilding weeks ago and now we are delighted Max will continue that progress.

"We wish him a successful future."
