Potters Bar Town recorded just their second league win of 2023 and their first for 10 games as they beat Kingstonian in a bit of a thriller.

The Scholars, still playing under caretaker boss Max Mitchell, needed an injury-time winner in the 3-2 Isthmian League Premier Division success at the Lantern Stadium.

It came from Adam Martin with his first for the club and eased the pressure after the poor run.

It had looked as if bad luck would haunt them though after they saw a two-goal advantage evaporate.

Lewis Smith had opened the scoring on seven minutes. A deep right-wing cross was not cleared and came to the former Colney Heath on the left-side of the penalty area.

He shifted it to his right and after running past two defenders, he bent an effort into the corner and to the left of Rob Tolfrey.

The second came with 25 minutes to go and was the perfect example of a breakaway goal.

The home side intercepted a poor pass on halfway to set Theo Alexandrou.

He stayed on his feet after an attempt to clip his heels before slipping it to his right where Charncey Dash was waiting.

He fired across Tolfrey and into the far corner.

But Kingstonian rallied thanks to the introduction of Reading midfielder David Nyarko.

His run into the penalty area just four minutes later was ended by a trip from goalkeeper Louis Chadwick and Tom Collins converted the spot-kick to halve the deficit.

Six minutes later and Nyarko drew the K's level with a powerful shot.

But if that knocked the stuffing out of Potters Bar, it didn't show and after the visitors failed to clear a long throw, Martin stabbed the ball home for the three points.

The win followed a 1-1 draw in midweek at home ot Horsham, former WGC man Alieu Njie getting his first for the club with a stooping header from a left-wing corner.

It was a good week for Njie with his red card against Cray Wanderers rescinded as well, meaning he could start in the win over the Ks.

The Scholars host Bognor Regis Town on Tuesday before going to Lewes on Saturday.
