A seven-year-old Welwyn Garden City girl organised and carried out a sponsored walk to help homeless people all by herself.

Eliana Franklin designed posters, contacted Herts Young Homeless (HYH) for some promotional items and stood up in front of her class to encourage her classmates to join her.

The Waterside Academy pupil and seven of her friends joined her in walking around Stanborough Lakes on Saturday, October 20, and have raised £660 between them so far,

The youngster, who became motivated to raise funds after seeing lots of homeless people while on holiday in Norfolk, said: “It was a lovely day, the lady from Herts Young Homeless came to meet us which was really nice of her.”

She added that her and her friends are especially happy after discovering that £25 can give one homeless person a night in a shelter.
