Garden centres serving Codicote, Hitchin, Royston, Potters Bar and Stevenage have all been put on the market.

Wyevale Garden Centres, the UK’s largest garden centre group, is selling 145 branches across the country either in bulk, in groups, or as individual investments.

Private equity firm Terra Firma has appointed Christie Group to sell them, including branches serving Codicote, Hitchin, Stevenage, Royston, and Potters Bar.

Anyone wanting a monopoly on Hertfordshire’s Wyevale centres will need to part with £16.1million.

The 5.86-acre Codicote branch, whose freehold is up for sale, is by far the most expensive of the businesses at £10million.

The freehold is also available at Hitchin, a 3.54-acre site taking offers of £3.8million.

Royston’s Wyevale is up for sale, with the leasehold of its 10.5 acre site going for £1.5million.

Thriftier gardeners could also snap up the leasehold at Stevenage, valued at £400,000.

The leasehold of the 6.91 acre Wyevale Potters Bar - technically in Barnet, as it’s just over the M25 - is also selling for £400,000.

Terra Firma acquired the group in 2012, buying 129 centres for £276million.
