Firefighters have successfully extinguished a fire near a railway line in Hatfield.

At 6.08am this morning, a Hatfield fire station crew were sent to put out a fire on a railway line embankment on St Albans Road West, for which they used a hosereel.

Firefighters from Welwyn Garden City were also called upon last night to help six other crews from across the county after 750 tonnes of straw bales caught fire in Hunsdon.

Farm machinery was used to check if the fire had spread and relief crews had to be sent in. The fire was allowed to burn under control.
