A CHARITY’S first event of 2012 has kicked off another year of fundraising for the elderly and lonely in Welwyn Hatfield.
The Terranova restaurant at Stanborough Lakes, WGC, hosted two Italian-inspired evenings.
The Mixed Group’s organiser Sean Cox said: “It was our first fundraiser of 2012, and we are grateful for the support we received as we were sold out for both nights.
“The menu was minestrone soup, penne Napoli, and a choice of desserts, followed by coffee and pannetone.
“Everyone commented on how much they enjoyed the atmosphere and food as well as helping our charity.”
A raffle, with donated prizes, raised money for the charity too.
The event was attended by both Welwyn Hatfield mayor Carl Storer and his deputy Helen Bromley. Mr Cox, was ably assisted by Cllr Bromley’s son Nicholas, who is now completing a charity trek to Borneo.
Mr Cox added: “I asked our supporters if they would like to assist Nicholas by giving some money as they left the restaurant.
“He received £245, so was very happy with the kindness of our patrons as he headed off for his trip on January 29.”
