Welwyn Hatfield mayor diagnosed with rare and advanced cancer

The husband of Welwyn Hatfield mayor Lynne Sparks has announced the devastating news that she is critically ill but “fighting hard”.

Councillor Sparks was admitted to hospital on Friday, January 19, and remains in the care of Lister Hospital.

Mr Sparks wrote: “This news is difficult for us to share with you but we wanted all Lynne’s friends to know the current situation.

“Lynne has been unexpectedly diagnosed with a rare and advanced cancer.

“This has led to numerous acute complications and Lynne is currently critically ill.

“She is surrounded by her family and is fighting hard.”

He continued: “We ask you to think of and pray for Lynne at this difficult time.

“Lynne is strong, possibly more so than any of us, selfless and determined.

“Lynne’s love and compassion for everyone she meets and the love of her family and friends are hugely important to Lynne.

“This strength is so important to all of us right now.”
