Welwyn Hatfield Holocaust Memorial Day service this week
A service to remember those who lost their lives during the Holocaust is taking place in Hatfield this Friday.
Welwyn Hatfield will mark Holocaust Memorial Day on Friday, January 26, with a ceremony at the Memorial, Links Drive, in Hatfield.
The service will begin at 11am, with a speech from deputy mayor Barbara Fitzsimon, to be followed by readings, prayers, a minute’s silence, and the releasing of doves.
This year’s theme is ‘the power of words’.
Barbara said: “By marking this date we ensure that the atrocious crimes against humanity that occurred during the Holocaust and subsequent genocides are never forgotten, and that new generations remain conscious of the awful acts that have occurred in history, and understand their importance.
“Holocaust Memorial Day is a time where communities can come together to remember the millions of people who lost their lives, and I would like to welcome everyone in Welwyn Hatfield to join us.”
After the ceremony, the deputy mayor invites everyone in attendance to join her for a small reception at the Welwyn Garden City Synagogue, Barn Close, in Handside Lane.
