A Welwyn Hatfield care provider is launching a two-week campaign to help the lonely and elderly this Christmas.

Home Instead Senior Care has teamed up with Tesco as part of its ‘Be a Santa to a Senior’ scheme, which involves collecting gifts at the Hatfield store and donating them to charity The Mixed Group.

Members of the public can buy a small gift and leave it with the Home Instead team, who will be there to welcome customers.

Suitable gifts include toiletries, blankets, socks, hats and non-perishable food.

The Mixed Group provides Christmas Day meals for lonely and elderly people.

Jane Andrews, spokeswoman for Home Instead Senior Care, said: “Our ‘Be a Santa to a Senior’ campaign provides a wonderful opportunity to touch the lives of older people amongst us who might be spending time alone over Christmas.

“Ultimately, the objective is to positively impact the lives of our elderly by reaching out to older people who might not receive a gift at Christmas time.

“We will be giving these gifts to The Mixed Group to distribute at their annual Christmas lunch.”
