A 14-year-old girl has been arrested after a video of a teen being beaten in Welwyn Garden City circulated online.

Police were contacted on Tuesday evening (August 14) by a member of the public who was concerned about a video she had seen on social media that appeared to show a girl being beaten up.

Officers obtained a copy of the video and carried out enquiries to identify the potential victim.

A police spokeswoman said: “Contact has now been made with a 14-year-old from Welwyn Garden City, who suffered bruising from the alleged assault.

“This is a live investigation and it is important that the young people involved are not named on social media or anywhere else as, due to their ages, their identities are protected by law.

“Anyone that does name them could face legal action.

“We would also urge people not to share the video on social media or elsewhere online as it is part of our criminal investigation.”
