Deputy headteacher Noel Kelly announced his retirement from Monk’s Walk School earlier this year and at the end of term a celebration of his “momentous” career took place.

Family, colleagues and former colleagues all gathered at the social event where three portraits of Mr Kelly were on display, completed by pupils for him to keep.

The school also asked for former pupils and colleagues to send in comments about Mr Kelly. So many were received that the school was able to compile a 100-page book to present to him.

There were many poignant messages from pupils, describing how his work had touched their lives since his career began in 1976.

On September 20, a special ceremony will be undertaken to unveil a professional portrait of Mr Kelly that will hang in the school library.
