Winners of WGC’s Business Improvement District (BID) Awards were announced at a ceremony at the Louis de Soissons Hall in Church Road on Friday, October 12.

More than 100 people attended the event, with 11 awards in different categories. Martin & Co Estate Agents in Howardsgate won for customer service excellence and best estate agent, Waitrose & Partners was awarded best national retailer, EE won for communications and technology and Natural Health in Wigmores North was named best independent retailer.

Other awards went to Vision Express, Currency Exchange Corporation, the British Heart Foundation charity shop, A-Plan Insurance and Supercuts, with Muffin Break named best café and The Two Willows named best pub.

The 11 main awards were judged by a mystery shopper, who gave Martin & Co Estate Agents a perfect score for customer service and praised the member of staff’s commitment, professionalism and enthusiasm for the town. All businesses visited by the mystery shopper received feedback to help improve their customer service.

OJ Daya, manager of Waitrose & Partners and chairman of the WGC BID board, said: “These awards help us improve the level of customer service we provide in the town, and they are a great opportunity for businesses to engage with each other, and with their customers.”

There were also nine ‘people’s favourite’ awards, which received almost 8,000 online votes. Campus West Entertainment was voted ‘most family-friendly venue’ by the public vote.

Cllr Terry Mitchinson, executive member for leisure, culture and communications, said: “The top award for ‘Most Family Friendly Venue’ at the BID Awards is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work of the whole team at CW Entertainment.

“With the combination of RollerCity, the cinema and event cinema offerings and Soft Play City, not to mention the brilliant annual Christmas Panto, they really strive to offer something for everyone.
