An under-threat bus service through Welwyn Hatfield has been saved – but will no longer run at weekends.

Today (Thursday) it was announced that the University of Hertfordshire’s Uno Bus company will take over the 797 bus.

The route, between Stevenage and London Victoria, is currently run by Arriva.

Uno will begin a new revised service from April 1, which will include a revised weekday timetable, and will not run at weekends.

James Thorpe, managing director of Uno Buses Ltd, said: “We are very pleased that Uno buses will be taking on the 797 bus service.

“We will be trialling the revised timetable from April and monitoring the use of the service over the following year to ensure it is financially viable in the long term.

“We hope it will prove beneficial to the local community.”
