Stuart West, who ran the WGC complex from 2004 to 2008, died on Saturday, May 26, after a long battle with cancer.

The 60-year-old father-of-two worked for Welwyn Hatfield Council for 23 years, in which time he held roles at Hatfield Leisure Centre, Hatfield Swim Centre and Panshanger Golf Complex, before joining Campus West in 1998.

Current Campus West general manager Mark Woolman, who took over from Mr West, said: “He was a valued and much-loved colleague and will be greatly missed by all those who worked with him and knew him personally.”

On his retirement in 2008, Mr West wrote a goodbye letter in the Campus West newsletter.

It read: “I have been very fortunate to manage Campus West and cherish the wonderful memories it holds for me – all the users I’ve met, the office and library staff, working colleagues, but more importantly my staff who have supported me 110 per cent through my four years of management.”

Mr West is survived by his wife Sue, daughter Danielle, 21, and 18-year-old son James.

  • He was always a very good natured and kind man. A very devoted family man. I am sorry to learn of his early death.
