SPURS legend Gary Mabbutt talks to the Welwyn Hatfield Times about his latest business – a water-free, environmentally friendly cleaning system.

AS a player, Gary Mabbutt was famous for tackling some of the biggest and best strikers of his generation.

But today, the FA Cup-winning former Tottenham Hotspur captain is getting stuck into an entirely different challenge – promoting his new water-free cleaning product.

The Brookmans Park resident is director of WOW [With-Out Water], an eco-friendly, biodegradable waterless cleaning system which negates the need for a hose or tap when cleaning your car, caravan, motorbike or windows.

And with a hosepipe ban being introduced in Hertfordshire on April 5, Gary, 50, said the timing couldn’t be better to switch to WOW.

“People don’t believe it until they see it,” he said. “With the way the world is going, water is becoming more precious and more expensive.

“This ticks all the boxes. It’s completely harmless, biodegradable and environmentally friendly. You can clean an average size car in about 15 minutes, and you should be able to get five washes out of an £11.99 bottle.”

WOW works by emulsifying dirt particles and cacooning them in a gel, which leaves a lubricating layer between the dirt and the surface.

As the dirt is removed, the liquid puts on a protective layer of water and dirt repellent and scratch filler.

Gary was first approached about waterless cleaning products three years ago, but was unimpressed by the product he saw.

He then teamed up with a physicist to develop a non-toxic cleaner that would last for years, and WOW was born.

“When I first heard about it, I thought that if you don’t use water it’s going to scratch the car,” said Gary.

“But this product is designed to emulsify the dirt particles, cacoon it in a gel then you just polish it off. What’s more likely to scratch?

“Things that are environmentally friendly and green tend to cost more money, but this actually saves you money. The big problem is educating the public that you can wash your car without water.”

WOW comes in six different ranges – Motor, Classic & Sport, Caravan & Motorhome, Boat & Yacht, House Proud and Motorsport.
