Thief strikes at Welwyn Garden City shop

Police are investigating after an opportunistic thief reached into a till and grabbed hundreds of pounds worth of cash at a Welwyn Garden City newsagents.

Police are investigating a theft that happened at McColls newsagents in Howardsgate on Saturday, August 25.

A police spokeswoman said: “Just after 5pm, an offender – reported to be a white male, reached over to the till while another customer was being served, and took a quantity of cash.”

The offender then made off from the shop, which was forced to close early because of the incident.

Anyone who saw what happened or has any other information that can help officers with their investigation is asked to contact Hertfordshire Constabulary on the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference 41/30925/18.
