THE whole of Potters Bar is invited to take part in a charity event where you even get to play a full round of golf.

Macmillan Cancer Support has teamed up with Hertsmere mayor Peter Knell and Barclays Premier Banking of Potters Bar to organise a charity golf day later this month.

All funds raised on the day will go towards the charity, which has had strong support from Potters Bar over the last year.

As Cllr Knell’s chosen charity, key fundraising events have been held in the town in the last 12 months, such as a World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, also in association with Barclays, and also a recent non-uniform day at Dame Alice Owen’s School.

Now everyone is invited to participate in the specially arranged golf day being hosted by Potters Bar Golf Club for £40 per person or £160 for a team of four.

Cllr Knell told the Potters Bar Edition: “Every penny raised is for Macmillan.

“The golf club is giving us the course free of charge and there will be a full 18 holes for every team of four.

“The day consists of a breakfast at 7am, 18 holes teeing off at 9am and a full buffet lunch at 1pm along with a raffle and auction and celebrity guests.”

Alan Summers, of the Darkes Lane golf club, said: “We are thrilled to bits to be part of this, firstly because it is something for the community to get involved in and secondly because it supports a great cause such as Macmillan.”

During his tenure as mayor, Cllr Knell has been tireless in his efforts for the cancer charity, along with the Darkes Lane branch of Barclays.

Branch manager Tracey Edwards said: “We are proud once again to be associated with Macmillan Cancer Support and the fundraising efforts made on their behalf.”

The day takes place on Thursday, April 19.

Cllr Knell added: “Working for my chosen charity Macmillan has been one of the best years of my life and I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.”
