A South Mimms resident wants to “bring the community together” by holding a street party for St George’s Day.

Father-of-five Glyn Martin, 40, plans to part-close Blackhorse Lane on Sunday, April 23, to enable residents to enjoy a community get-together.

He said: “It’s to bring the community spirit and everyone together and to celebrate St George’s Day because no one seems to.

“There were a few of us who were speaking in the pub saying we never do anything, so we just really wanted to do it.

“We like to think it will be the start of an event [every year].”

Scheduled between 12pm and 5pm, there will be a free bouncy castle for kids, as well as room for them to safely play on their bikes.

Residents will need to bring their own chairs, tables and drinks, and can set up disposable barbecues.

Glyn added: “I spoke to the parish council, which aren’t involved in this one, but next year we would definitely like to make it bigger, close the whole road and get everyone involved.”
