DO you remember boarding steam trains at WGC railway station?
Well those memories can be rekindled next month when The Cathedrals Express Tornado locomotive pulls up at the stop for the first time.
The 60163 Tornado, which has attracted attention in Welwyn Hatfield before on journeys passing through the area, will be taking passengers to York.
People joining at WGC will take their seat in the Pullman-style 1950s carriages and be able to choose from four different travel options: two full dining options, first class and premium.
Each passenger will receive a welcome glass of Champagne and brunch, while on the return will enjoy canapés before being served a four-course meal with a half bottle of wine.
The UK’s newest steam locomotive will leave London King’s Cross at about 8.30am on Thursday, March 29, calling at WGC at approximately 9.15am to arrive in York around 1.30pm.
There will then be three hours to explore the city, before it returns to WGC by 8.45pm.
Marcus Robertson, chairman of The Cathedrals Express, said: “It is always really exciting to bring a steam train to a new route.
“The interest and enthusiasm from passengers is wonderful.”
Prices range from £85 to £225 per person. To book contact 01483 209888.

Advance tickets are a lot lower than that on East Coast, although obviously - like on airlines - there are limited numbers on any given train. I'm pretty sure prices start at about £30 for a return (well, two singles at £15 each). Now, the walk-up fares are a totally different kettle of fish, especially first class. My eyes are watering just thinking about it!

£85 Rtn to York? That's not bad considering the rip off ticket prices on trains, according to National Rail Enquiries the same journey at the times stated in advance is £85.40.

At least the current climate should mean less lineside fires caused by it today!
