Tickets for the three-day rock and metal event at the Hertfordshire stately home go on sale to the general public from 9am this morning.

The world’s largest international touring festival returns to the grounds of Knebworth House from Friday, July 6 to Sunday, July 8.

American hard rockers Kiss, featuring Gene Simmons on bass, will headline the opening Friday night at Knebworth with their only European show of 2012.

Music legends Queen, with US singer Adam Lambert joining Brian May and Roger Taylor, will make a world exclusive appearance as Sonisphere’s Saturday night headliners – 26 years after playing the venue with the late, great Freddie Mercury.

Faith No More will close the festival on the main Apollo stage on the Sunday with an exclusive UK show.

FNM bass player Billy Gould said: “It was over two years ago when we decided to reform and play those amazing UK shows.

“The good news is we’ve had a couple of years to improve our skills; moving our song to error ratio down 3.5 full percentage points.

“Watch out UK, we’re going to do it right this time!”

Joining the three headliners over the weekend are the likes of Evanescence, The Darkness, Within Temptation, Wolfmother, Incubus, Marilyn Manson, Cypress Hill, Gojira, Lacuna Coil and musician/comedian Tim Minchin.

Others so far confirmed include Flogging Molly, Mastodon, Refused, The Blackout, Andrew W.K., Switchfoot, Katatonia, Ghost, I Killed The Prom Queen and Fields of the Nephilim, with many more to be announced.

Rock Royalty and day VIP packages are also available.

A deposit scheme will also be launched for those who want to spread the cost of their ticket.

Festival-goers can pay a deposit of £50 to secure their weekend passes, with the balance due before May 1.
