A LASER-BEARING man, who shone his light at a police helicopter, has been jailed for five months.
Ross Millson, 20, of Peartree Lane, WGC, pleaded guilty to endangering the safety of an aircraft, after the pilot of a force helicopter had reported a light was shone into his eyes en-route to an incident.
The incident happened near Panshanger at 2.40am, on August 1, 2009.
Justice Cooke said at the St Albans Crown Court case on Friday: “You jeopardised the safety of people in the helicopter and had there been a crash, a number of people could have been injured.”
Detective chief inspector Trevor Rodenhurst added: “We hope this custodial sentence acts as a deterrent to anyone considering doing something so reckless. Pilots can pinpoint locations to where the light is coming from and direct police resources.”

i completely agree, its absolutely ridiculous! this lad has now been put in for one crime that was probably not even intended or thought of as a crime at the time. A young lad trying out a laser pen, boys with their toys! he's now going to be limited to what he can do when he gets out, its going to be hard to get a job, a house etc. whilst real criminals are being spared jail being let to get on with their lives without a criminal record holding them back. Infact i read on saturday that a paedophile had been spared jail as the cells are getting too full and they want to keep room for more serious criminals. they are just contradicting themselves putting a young lad commiting a minor crime in jail yet letting a sick and twisted individual who has probably affected many families, caused upset shame and anger, has been let to roam around to commit again and enjoy a life with no restrictions or criminal record! and by doing so they are putting the public in danger of real criminals who could actually cause harm to many and affect many lives of innocent people! ridiculous!

I totally agree with you, this is just ridiculous. Just last week i saw in the paper that a peodophile had been spared jail because there wasn't enough room in the prisons, not surprising really when they lock up people for such minor offences. I agree that what he did was silly but i doubt he realised how dangerous it was and that if he had known then he wouldn't have done it. He should've been given community service or tagged not locked up, it's so unfair. Our justice system is a joke!!!

What an absolute joke when you have people pleading guilty to crimes like burglary and criminal damage walking free from court. Just last week Pete Doherty walked free from court after taking heroin into it! I hope Detective chief inspector Rodenhurst has thought through the consequences for the poor lad involved - who not only has a custodial sentence to deal with but a criminal record for the rest of his life. Our justice system is a joke - why can't we bang some real scum up for a change and give us tax payers better value for money.
