A man has been jailed after threatening police officers with scissors in Welwyn Garden City and inappropriately touching a woman.

Sean McGregor, 41, of Sandhills in Shrivenham, was sentenced to 34 weeks’ imprisonment on January 24 at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court.

On October 9, 2017, McGregor approached a woman at London Liverpool Street station, kissed her hand and then kissed her on the head.

Last week on Monday, January 22, he was then found drunk at Welwyn Garden City station and refused to leave a train.

Officers attended and he held up a pair of scissors, raising that hand towards them.

The police disarmed McGregor and he was found to be wanted in connection to the previous incident.

He was charged and found guilty at court of one count of sexual touching, one count of possession of a bladed article in a public place and one count of being drunk and disorderly.

He was sentenced to eight weeks’ imprisonment and ordered to pay £100 compensation and £85 costs in relation to the sexual touching.

He was further sentenced to 26 weeks’ imprisonment for the possession of the bladed article, to run consecutively.

PC Daniel Starling, from Stevenage BTP, said: “I am happy that McGregor has received a prison sentence for possessing this dangerous item in a public place.

“Nobody should be carrying bladed or sharply pointed items and this result reflects the hard work the police are doing to make our railways and communities safer.”
