GLASS and a greater range of plastics could soon be collected from the kerbside in Potters Bar.

Hertsmere Borough Council’s executive is due to endorse plans to extend the recycling service at a meeting tonight (Wednesday).

Councillors will be considering a report from Stephen Burton, the council’s head of street scene.

In the report, Mr Burton encourages councillors to approve the replacement of black recycling boxes with wheelie bins.

This, he says, will give residents in Potters Bar “sufficient capacity” to recycle all of their plastics, cans and glass.

The report also states that the council is currently recycling at a rate of 40 per cent.

However, if kerbside collections are expanded, Mr Burton said this figure could rise by four per cent.

If the report is approved – and officers are recommending that it should be – then the new collections are expected to begin in the autumn.
