NOT even rain on the parade could dampen the proud English spirit of young scouts and guides.

Rain fell on the St George’s Day Parade marched proudly by the Potters Bar and District Scouts and Guides on the last weekend of April, but it was still a roaring success.

Proud scouts section leader Charles Dace said: “Every year the scouting movement celebrate St George by parading in his honour.

“Not every section across the district could parade on the same weekend because the county commissioner wanted to take in as many parades as he could, so we agreed to parade the weekend after St George’s Day.

“The weather was against us and some parents didn’t allow their children out in the rain but it was still a very good day.

“We had the Herts Showband with us providing the music to march to, which created a great atmosphere, and the parade shows scouting is still alive and kicking and lets the community know we are here.”

The parade is celebrated by scout groups up and down the country as part of St George’s Day on April 23.
