A group of former Potters Bar residents who are now Internet sensations won two awards at the annual UK Blog Awards.
The SORTEDfood team from Potters Bar were crowned winners of the Vlogger category for their blog at the annual UK Blog Awards on Friday 21.
The men behind the popular food channel, Jamie Spafford, Ben Ebbrell, Barry James Taylor and Mike Huttlestone, all met at Chancellor’s School, Brookmans Park, in Year 7 in 1998.
After receiving 2,000 entries and over 96,000 public votes, 600 attendees with notable guests gathered at The Park Plaza Hotel, in London, to celebrate and recognise the best in digital content across 17 different categories.
This year’s ceremony was hosted by top fitness influencer Chessie King and Radio X DJ and MTV presenter, Jack Saunders.
A panel of experts in the field judged the Vlogger category and announced SORTEDfood, who have over 1.7 million subscribers on YouTube, as this year’s winner.
Ben Ebbrell and Jamie Spafford, who were in attendance on behalf of the whole team, also won the new overarching ‘Content of the Year Award’.
Jamie said: “Being a small team with huge output we’re always looking ahead to the next great idea and constantly striving to improve.
“We of course immediately told our community who voted and supported us that they are the brains and voice behind the majority of our content. “They shape everything we create.”
When asked about their plans following their recent success, Jamie said: “Longer term, we’re incredibly excited about what’s to come next.
“We’ve redeveloped The FridgeCam Show to focus on a foodie theme each week which has allowed us to be more disciplined internally, making each episode better than the last.
“We also just launched ‘Now Cook It’, our initiative with Co-op which is an online platform that offers free cooking lessons.”
