Police were called to the Galleria in Hatfield following reports that a gang was “armed” with a knife.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called to the Hatfield Galleria at 6.22pm yesterday (Sunday) to reports that a group of men were armed with a knife.

“Officers attended and a number of people were searched.

“No knife was found.

“One male reported that he had been assaulted (punched).

“Local officers remained in the area for reassurance and will be attending today to speak to businesses.”

Members of the public took to social media describing a “massive group” of teenagers in the area at the time, along with the police presence.

Another eyewitness said they saw police get out of a vehicle with what appeared to be riot shields outside the Galleria on the McDonald’s side.

Parents urged others to check whether their children were OK if they were in the area at the time.
