Police are investigating after a 12-year-old boy was attacked by a group of around 15 schoolchildren in Welwyn Garden City.

Police have released an appeal today after a Sir Frederic Osborn School pupil was assaulted by a group of around 15 other youngsters from the school - a mix of males and females - on Tuesday, May 22.

The incident, which has left him with bruising and soft tissue injuries, happened in Knella Road between 3pm and 3.15pm.

A member of the public broke up the fight, helped the victim get onto a bus and then alerted the school.

A spokesperson for the school told the Welwyn Hatfield Times that the incident is being taken “very seriously”.

Two senior members of staff were sent out immediately to search for the boy and went to his home to speak with his parents.

The spokesperson said: “We took appropriate action and an investigation is ongoing.”

A police spokeswoman said: “Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any other information, should contact Hertfordshire Constabulary on the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference B1/18/1891.”
