A brave member of staff was punched in the ribs when she challenged a thief for stealing a crate of lager in Welwyn Garden City.

Police have released a CCTV image of a person they would like to speak to in connection with the theft.

The crime took place on Friday, September 7 between 8 to 8.30 pm, at the Co-op in Hall Grove, Welwyn Garden City.

An offender entered the store and attempted to take some alcohol when they were challenged by the member of staff.

She was then punched in the ribs.

PC Laura Frelford, who is investigating, said: “Thankfully the victim was not injured following her ordeal but it has left her understandably shaken.

“I am keen to identify and speak to the person pictured as I believe they may have information that could prove useful in my enquiries.

“If you have any further information, please contact me by email at laura.frelford@herts.pnn.police.uk, call the non-emergency number 101 or report information online at https://www.herts.police.uk/Report quoting reference 41/34724/18.”
