A HIGH ropes adventure course is set to be open by April next year, if plans are given the go-ahead tonight (Tuesday).
Welwyn Hatfield Council’s cabinet is tonight (Tuesday) set to approve spending £1.35m on this stage of the project at the former Splashlands site on Stanborough Lakes.
The outdoor swimming pool site will not be replaced with a pool, but with a high ropes course – similar to Go Ape and Aerial Extreme, but run by Finesse Leisure – and a “wet play area”.
Councillors are set to be asked to approve the splitting of the Splashlands project into two phases so work could begin on phase one – the high ropes, highways alterations, the entrance and car park and basic landscaping.
There is a total of £1.623m earmarked for phase two.
A council spokeswoman said: “The high ropes course planned for Stanborough Park will be akin to other courses commonly used for family leisure pursuits and team building events, for example Go Ape or Aerial Extreme.
“Further investigation and options about the scope of the wet play feature, anticipated to form phase two of the project, are yet to be formulated.
“However, the intention is to ensure the offering is one that meets the needs of the local audience and likely users of the facility, as well as Finesse and the council.”

£1.35million, for some wooden poles, a few planks of wood, and some ropes!!!! They MUST be joking!!!!! If they know the cost, they must have got a quote.....from who? How many other companies were invited to tender? Was this the lowest quote?

I hope they don't put up all the ropes and then close it down for health & safety reasons! Mind you, perhaps they could put plenty of water below, plus some more obstacles, and we could get people to come here for the next series of Wipeout.

Mmm, there's nothing more relaxing on a hot Summer's day than to go for a good rope climb. Well done WHDC! I do hope this new endeavour will be suitably provided for with ample Pizza and Coffee outlets.

Why are projects like this being put ahead of redeveloping Hatfield Town Centre? WHDC couldnt be more prejudiced against Hatfield if they tried. Shame on you (Again) Oh, and for the record, I live in WGC.
