AN appeal against a refusal of planning permission on Broadwater Road, in WGC, has been lodged with the planning inspector.
Pizza Roma has appealed the decision by Welwyn Hatfield Council’s officers to refuse to allow the site to be used as a takeaway.
The company had applied to retain the use of the unit as an eatery, although it did not previously have permission, having been turned down for a certificate of lawfulness in June 2005.
A spokeswoman for Welwyn Hatfield Council said: “The proposed A5 use would not constitute an appropriate use in the employment area and the applicant has failed to prove to the satisfaction of the council, that the land would no longer be required for the future employment and business of the borough.”
She added: “The applicant has failed to demonstrate that there would be sufficient parking space allocated for the proposed use on the site.”

I was born in WGC and lived there for 30 odd years before moving away. I never realised that those units had such any history to do with motor racing. I think there should be a museum of some sorts dedicated to welwyn hatfield industries, the motor racing, the film making, the aircraft etc etc etc

Those two remaining original WGC industrial units, where Sir Henry Birkin had his Le Mans Bentley racing team in the 1920's, should be given listed building protection.

I did wonder what would happen to that side of Broadwater Road whether there was a Tesco store or not. With a Tesco store, swimming pool etc on the other side of Broadwater Road, that side would look AWFUL. Without a Tesco store, swimming pool etc on the other side of Broadwater Road, there would be a HUGE amount of space for development if the area was 'vacated'...

What on earth i8s wrong with this b---y council. No one wants the area for industrial use ok!!!! It will just remain an eyesore for all entering WGC. Need to elect a council that cares about the city and the people that live in it not have a council full of jobsworths. WAKE UP
