Despite sadness over the loss of another Great British pub, residents and a councillor have ‘crepe expectations’ for a new pancake restaurant, which is set to open at former pub The Lion, in Barnet Road, next month.

And they are certain the novel idea will not fall flat.

The new fully-licensed restaurant will be called Potty Pancakes, and is due to open on Monday, June 10.

Potty Pancakes has a Facebook page and has created a buzz online as residents eagerly anticipate trying its dishes.

A message on the site read: “Potty Pancakes is a family business. We are potty about pancakes and filled with enthusiasm for the future we want to make the humble pancake delicious.”

Cllr James Ricks, in whose ward the new venue will open, told the Welwyn Hatfield Times’ Potters Bar Edition: “It is sad to see pubs go and disappear from the community.

“Being a member of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), I like to see pubs stay, but on the other hand it is nice to see an establishment take up the property relatively quickly, so I am pleased to see that.”

Asked if he thought the new business to be well-received, he said: “I hope it is.

“I am hopeful that the concept will be a good idea, I think if the residents support it, it will be a success.”

And he believed being a licensed premises it might make up for the hole left at the heart of the community by the loss of the pub.

Other residents wrote of their excitement on Facebook.

Nikki Constantinou Anayiotou commented: “Ooh just around the corner from me, and I’m sure you’ll do well, I’ll spread the word with the Cuffley mums! Good luck x.”

While Karen Denham said: “It’s about time Potters Bar had something different, hope all goes well!”

And Georgina Varnavides-Elia wrote: “There are lots of pubs, we need something like this locally.

“It will do well I’m sure.”
